Lot 2635
Hadrian, 117-138. 'Denarius' (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.47 g, 6 h), a contemporary 'limes denarius', irregular mint, after 121. IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HA[...] Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian to right. Rev. IMP CAESAR TRAIAN[...] Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian to right. Scratches and with a minor scrape on the obverse, otherwise, fine.

'Limes-falsa' were contemporary casts from Roman coins which were likely produced by local authorities in times of shortage of monetary supply from the central government. This is a particularly odd example, as it combines two obverses of Hadrian to a denarius with the imperial portrait on both sides of the coin, so no games of heads or tails with this coin!
